Charlie Krammer instituted a monthly “Safety Committee” walk through that corresponded with the insurance inspections.  The protection carpenter, Prince, the concrete contractor, Sorbara, the Site Safety Manager, Total Safety Consulting and members of the Plaza Project Team all walked the building with the intention of identifying hazards and correcting them on the spot, before they could become  problems.

His proactive approached also included additional safety training when a contractor showed the need for it.  By working cooperatively with his Site Safety Manager, Charlie was able to run a job that kept accidents down. 

Charlie’s Project team tracked all accidents, kept an incident log for the entire site and kept a tally of the man hours to do statistically analysis of trends.

There were 12 OSHA recordable injuries from November, 2006 to October, 2007 for a Total Case Incident Rate of 4.8.  The national average for residential construction is 5.0 for a reduction of 4 %.

This superior effort deserves consideration for the Charlie LaBette Hardhat Award.
