221 East 34th Street, New York, NY

Plaza Construction Corporation was selected by LCOR, Inc. as Construction Manager for the new 21-story luxury condominium located at 225 E 34th Street.

The “Charleston” consists of 191 residential units ranging from 500 SK studios to 1600 SK three bedroom units. The 250,000 SK project features an industrial chic lobby to welcome the tenants home, a 2nd floor amenity area with a full kitchen, two outdoor seating areas with plenty of space for tenants to interact and a cellar storage facility containing individual lockers for each condo unit. A spacious roof terrace is available for residents to take in the views of the Murray Hill neighborhood including the East River.

Each residential unit features Yellow Birch engineered strip wood flooring. A heat pump system with individual thermostats keeping residents warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Kitchens, designed by BBGM Interiors, have Macasser Ebony cabinets from Germany, Stainless Steel appliances by DCS and SubZero, and white stone countertops. Baths have Wenge wood vanities, Grohe fixtures, Hastings 12X24 wall tile with glass tile accent, and the same white countertop material that make the kitchens stand out as they do. Finally, an elegant glass, aluminum and stone storefront offset the suspended marquis at the ground level lobby entrance.

Construction of the building posed several challenges. The varying levels of bedrock necessitated the combination foundation of rock chopping, piers to rock, and caisson caps. The reinforced concrete superstructure was poured using a three-day cycle. The lintel system will allow the brick and masonry to cover any exposed concrete eyebrows while the cavity wall will protect from weather elements. Finally the combination of punch windows, window wall, and metal panels designed by HLW Architects allow light into the already spacious apartments.
