The Hudson
225 West 60th Street, New York, NY
The mixed use building at 225 West 60th Street is the home of Touro College's Lander College for Women and The Hudson Condominiums.
The Hudson Condominiums consist of 80-one, -two, and -three bedroom units. Units on the fourth, seventeenth, and eighteenth floors have paved and lighted
terraces. The roof houses the building's cooling tower and tenant accessible roof top spaces.
All apartments are fitted out with Afromosia-veneered kitchen and bath cabinets, custom designed plumbing trim and fixtures, Ash wood floors and imported
tile in the bathrooms. Fireplaces were installed in selected apartments.
Plaza built the core and shell for Touro College which houses the building's mechanical equipment room and MEP infrastructure as well as a gymnasium,
classrooms, library, labs, a cafeteria, and a dedicated elevator. An intricate steel truss between the second and fourth floors is an architectural feature
visible from the storefront glass leading to the school's second floor terrace which features a plank skylight system.
The challenges faced by Plaza during the construction of this building are two-fold: The first included the logistics involved with the sequential
mobilization of the superstructure concrete installation necessary to support the steel truss, transitioning to the steel installation, and then resuming the
concrete work while the steel was being welded and bolted. As this was an OSHA-partnership project, the above was planned and executed flawlessly without
any worker injuries and a 25% schedule improvement for that phase of the job. The second challenge involved the coordination of the facade components
incorporated into the building design: curtain wall, metal panels, and storefront on the lower four floors transitioning to window wall and metal panels on
the upper floors and bulkhead.
