The Shops at Atlas Park
Cooper Avenue, Glendale, NY
Plaza Construction Corporation was the Construction Manager for this new
mixed-use, “lifestyle” shopping center in Glendale, NY.
Atlas Terminals was a 25-acre, 1,000,000 SF industrial property in the
Glendale section of Queens, NY. The developer, Atco Properties &
Management redeveloped a 12-acre portion of the site which it has owned and operated for 80 years.
The redevelopment area included 23 buildings, 16 of which
were completely or partially demolished, four were
renovated, and two (including a central boiler plant that continues
to serve the balance of the property) was unaffected. Additionally,
three new buildings were constructed. The redevelopment called for the creation of Queens’ first and only contemporary
“lifestyle” shopping center, with 310,000 SF of retail space, 90,000 SF
of office space including a movie theater and a 750-car multilevel
garage at the rear of the site.
The physical environmental is a park-like setting with a central
2.3 acre landscaped park and two additional landscaped acres. The
Shops at Atlas Park offers patrons a combination of better merchandise
and a relaxing escape in an extraordinary 10-acre public space. An
inviting retreat of whitewashed architecture surrounding open-air terraces,
sheltered walkways and comfortable cafes, boutiques and bistros
complete this exciting project.
