Astoria Energy

This new electric generating facility in Astoria, is New York City’s largest power plant built in more than 25 years. The power plant uses state-of-the-art, natural gas fueled, combined cycle technology to produce 1,000 megawatts of power – enough to supply one million customers. Plaza Construction was selected to manage the demolition/decommissioning, architectural, civil, and structural work by Shaw, Stone & Webster for the construction of this 2-on-1 combined cycle power plant.  Scope of work consisted of final de-gassing of the existing 50 million gallon bulk fuel storage facility, demolition of the existing facility, soil erosion protection, site grading and development, auger cast piles, concrete foundations, underground utilities, bolted steel demineralized and fire suppression water tanks, turnkey pre-engineered sound attenuation buildings to house the steam and combustion turbines, heat recovery steam generators and gas fuel compressors, pipe racks and final site development.
