Brookfield Place Entry Pavilion
This is the new front door into Brookfield Place, the Lower Manhattan landmark formerly known as the World Financial Center (WFC). Visitors enter from the ground level or from six high-speed escalators traveling 50’ below grade to connect to the WTC, PATH train station, and the September 11th Memorial site. The glowing entry is a grand new room in which 35,000 commuters and visitors travel daily. The Pavilion is a clear glass box with minimal structural supports, acting as the new front door for the entire complex and making its public spaces and offices more accessible to pedestrian traffic. Softly curving glass walls define its exterior. Inside, a pair of 54’ tall expressive columns - woven for a basket-like appearance - supports the roof and enclosure. The pavilion was recognized by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) with a 2014 IDEAS2 Merit Award for Excellence in Steel-Frame Building Design.
