Brooklyn Navy Yard Building 77
Building 77 is a one-million square foot, 18-story building. Built in the run-up to World War II as a windowless storage facility, Building 77 is now transformed into a state-of-the-art industrial/manufacturing, tech and design hub. Built in the 1940’s using reinforced concrete construction, the building has windows on the lower 11 floors, windows at the 4 stair towers. The project entailed a full gut, including exterior façade between columns from floors 3 through 16, new window wall system with exterior insulated panels, new electrical infrastructure (including 3 new double-ended switch gears on the 2nd floor), modernization of 8 existing elevators (4 freights & 4 passengers) and 4 new passenger elevators, new mechanical, plumbing and fire protection infrastructure upgrade, restoration of the existing façade, core build-out.
Additional building details:
- The ceiling heights on floors 3 through 5 are 10’3 and on floors 6 through 9 11’
- (4) modernized 16,000 lb. freight elevators
- (8) modernized passenger elevator
- New building-wide condenser water system served by (4) 925-ton cooling towers
- The structure has a LEED Silver Certification and is on the National Register of Historical Places
