National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE)
Plaza was hired as the Owners Representative to provide Program Management from conceptual design through project opening for the National Intrepid Center of Excellence, (NICoE).
The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, a national leader in supporting the men and women of the United State Armed Forces and their families, launched this important new effort to serve our military community. NICoE is an advanced facility dedicated to research, diagnosis and treatment of military personnel and veterans suffering from traumatic brain injury (TBI) and psychological health issues.
NICoE is a 72,000 SF, two-story level facility located on the Navy campus at Bethesda, Maryland, adjacent to the new Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, with close access to the Uniformed Services University, the National Institute of Health, and the Veterans Health Administration. NICoE was designed to provide the most advanced services for advanced diagnostics, initial treatment plan and family education, introduction to therapeutic modalities, referral and reintegration support for military personnel and veterans with TBI, post traumatic stress disorder, and/or complex psychological health issues.
Further, NICoE conducts research, tests new protocols, and offers comprehensive training and education to patients, providers and families while maintaining ongoing follow-up care across the country and throughout the world.
The control has the following laboratory area incorporated:
Vestibular Lab
Blood Lab
Hot Lab (injection of radioactive materials for imaging)
Audiology
Imaging with HD resolution
MRI
PET/CT
Construction began in March 2009 with completion in July 2010. Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund has transferred NICoE to the Department of Defense for staffing and ongoing operation.
Additionally, Plaza provided Program Management services for the NICoE satellites (Intrepid Spirit Centers) located in Camp Lejuene, NC; Camp Pendleton, CA; Fort Belvior, VA; Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, NC; Fort Campbell, KY; Fort Hood in Killeen, TX; and Eglin Air Force Base in Eglin, FL.
